Several years ago, a mother came to me during the time her daughter was pregnant. The baby shower was soon to come and the mother wanted to give her daughter something that no one else would. Something special and out of the ordinary. She told me how happy her daughter was to be having this baby and what it meant to her and the daughter's heritage, part Native American. This wonderful woman left with me the abilitiy to create what I felt and just a few pictures of her daughter. Thus I created the Native American Mother and child, which is a 36 x 24 oil on canvas. Needless to say, when they saw the painting the tears fell and the joy and happiness was something that can not be replaced and this for me as an artist is the ultimate gratification. This family has a half dozen of my originals in their collection.
Lora Duguay has been creative since childhood, but when her life was affected by Post Polio Syndrome, her hobby became her full time career. Her artistic creativity has been focused on the cultural beauty of indigenous tribes, nature, and iconography. Mediums include oil, pastels, colored pencil, scratchboard and photography. Her art has been exhibited in various museums and galleries throughout the United States. She is a member of The Association of Miniature Artists. Lora is also a member of VSA Florida, now Arts4All Florida, having participated on their Board of Directors, as well as Artist in Residency Program sharing her artistic knowledge with students who have special needs.
